KYIV
US Attorney General Merrick Garland arrived in Kyiv on June 21 on an unannounced visit. The goal is to help Ukraine identify, detain, and prosecute those involved in war crimes during the Russian war in Ukraine.
The purpose of his trip is to coordinate efforts to identify, apprehend and bring to justice those involved in war crimes committed during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The task force, according to Garland, will be led by the most notorious Nazi hunter in the US Justice Department, Eli Rosenbaum, and will consist of experts in human rights and war crimes investigations.
Speaking to reporters in Ukraine, Garland said: “I am here to express the unwavering support of the people of Ukraine from the United States in the face of an unprovoked and unjustifiable Russian invasion.”
The US Department of Justice already has a working group dealing with arrests of yachts and other luxury items owned by Russian oligarchs.
