The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, based on the results of urgent debates on the topic "New escalation of the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine", adopted a resolution declaring the regime of the Russian Federation terrorist.
Out of 100 PACE deputies, 99 voted “for”, “against” – 0, and “abstained” – 1.
In particular, the draft resolution was amended by voice, which states: “Declare the current regime of the Russian Federation terrorist.”
The resolution also included an amendment with a call to provide Ukraine with air defense systems.
PACE has just adopted a very strong resolution regarding Ukraine!” – wrote the representative of Ukraine in PACE, member of the Council Oleksiy Goncharenko.
He cited the most important points of the resolution:
- It is noted that the Russian regime is terrorist. This is a powerful signal on a global scale, and it is another step to recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.
- For the first time in history, the Council of Europe declared that it is necessary to give the country weapons! We are talking about air defense systems for the protection of the civilian population.
- It is noted that Russia’s presence in the UN Security Council is not legal.
- Establish an international tribunal as soon as possible.
PACE became the first influential international organization to recognize Russia as a terrorist state.
Before the vote in the PACE, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke via video link, calling for support for the resolution.
Zelensky welcomed the adoption of the PACE resolution, “by which the current regime of the Russian Federation is recognized as terrorist.”
