Ukraine has submitted its proposals to the REpowerEU strategy , which envisage practical steps to use the export capacity of the Ukrainian energy system .
This was emphasized by Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Mykola Kolisnyk during his speech at the 25th Gazterm -2022 conference , which is taking place on May 16-17 in Poland . The event is dedicated to strengthening regional cooperation in the energy sector in response to the challenges posed by rapid global change .
Energy has become one of the front lines of Russia ‘s war not only against Ukraine . ” Russian oil , gas and nuclear fuel are weapons that the Kremlin uses against the whole free world . The rejection of European business from Russian energy is already a pragmatic commercial decision , because Russia has long ceased to be a reliable and predictable partner. At the same time , for Europe , independence from Russian energy resources is first and foremost a security issue , ” Mykola Kolisnyk stressed .
The Deputy Minister noted that decisive action is now needed on the part of European governments to completely abandon Russia ‘s energy resources . The new REpowerEU strategy must provide clear solutions in three aspects: how to replace Russian energy , how to end Russian control over energy assets in Europe and how to guarantee that this situation will not happen again, ” Mykola Kolisnyk stressed .
At the same time, Ukraine remains a reliable partner of Europe in the energy sector and is ready to make a significant contribution to the security of natural gas supplies to European countries , in particular , thanks to powerful underground storage facilities of 31 billion cubic meters. m. Ukraine is ready to offer about half of these facilities to European companies for seasonal or strategic gas reserves .
Ukraine can also help European countries get rid of their dependence on Russian energy by exporting electricity . “According to our estimates , electricity from Ukraine can replace about 17% of Russian gas exported to the EU, ” said Mykola Kolisnyk .
